In 2018 Bison Bullion will begin marking test bars of a new design as an Artist Proof.
FAQ: What is an Artist Proof?
Our Artist Proof bars are the very first bars of a new design. In the past these bars have been remelted until the exact weight of the new design is determined and the permanent mold has been "burned in" ("burned in" is a term we use to signify that that the mold is ready for production pouring. Normally it takes a number of pours for our molds to produce the quality we expect for production).
The Artist Proof bars can vary quite a bit from our production version and will be extremely rare and collectible. No more then 25 Artist Proof bars will be produced, in some instances there may be fewer then 25, even if marked with "AP ## /25".
These unique bars are test pours of the design and may vary in weight from the final production bars, may only have partial designs if the amount of precious metal used is not enough to fill the mold, may have extreme imperfections, may be left in the rough (meaning no finish work at all) or may have experimental finishes, etc. Simply put, these are the experimental pours that are required to bring our production design to market.
FAQ: How do I get a hold of a Bison Bullion Artist Proof bar?
Getting a Bison Bullion Artist Proof bar is a major treasure hunt! All of the Artist Proof bars will be retained by the owner/artist, Craig Reiners (CR). Craig is the only Bison Bullion artist at this time and is responsible for coming up with new designs and turning that design into a permanent mold for exclusive use by the licensed foundry at Kearney Coin Center .The artist will retain the Artist Proof bars, give or sell them to family, friends or business contacts. Occasionally the artist may sell some on the open market. The artist will make sure that at least a few bars of each design are released to the general public. Should one of these bars become available to you for purchase you may be wise to buy it quickly!
FAQ: How will I know the Bison Bullion bar is an Artist Proof?
The Artist Proof bars will have special stamping and numbering.
1. All Artist Proof bars will be stamped with the initials of the artist, at this time the only artist is Craig Reiners. The bars will be stamped with "CR". The stamp will normally be located in front of the Artist Proof stamp and numbering. Small bars may require the stamp to be located anywhere that it will fit.
2. Large bars will be stamped and numbered as follows: "CR AP##/25"
3. Small bars will be stamped as follows: "AP##" , the artist initials "CR" will be placed where there is room to stamp it.
Thank you very much to our loyal repeat customers and to our future customers. Bison Bullion is a "labor of love" for those of us involved in producing the product. Bison Bullion was never intended to produce items in a "cookie cutter" mint where thousands or more of each product are dumped into the market place. All of our hand poured works of art are near and dear to our hearts and are naturally collectible due to the very small quantities that we are able to produce using the old world method of hand pouring. We hope that each product becomes near and dear to your heart also.
